The last days we have had some amazing sunsets. Dark blue clouds were spread out over the peninsula where I live and there was a big line of red light at the horizon. The scene was spectacular but I wasn’t able to photograph it as I was having parties all the time. We are having holidays and a lot of my friends parents are on a holiday, so almost every night I end up chilling with friends.
But this evening I decided to go out shooting before I went to a party. The fog in the sky that had brought the nice red light of the previous evenings had rained down in the past day, but nevertheless I went out, not sure it was going to be great. The sky didn’t get red unfortunately.

Location
I decided to go to the boulevard of Vlissingen as it’s not too far from my home. Sometimes I really want to have some rocks on the beach but we hardly have them where I live. But at the moment they are reinforcing the dykes. So there are stones on the beach everywhere.

I really love seeing how the dyke gets reinforced and how dredging-ships are dumping their sand in front of the coast to decrease the wave intensity. I was hoping the ships would go ‘rainbowing’ too, but unfortunately they didn’t. I am going to start my bachelor Civil Engineering this summer which is all about dredging and dyke-engineering.

Photo
The sun had almost set and it was getting darker and darker. I wanted to capture the movement of the sea so I had really open my aperture. In the composition I wanted the perfect balance between blurred lines and washing water. It took me a couple of frames to get it the way I wanted.

In Lightroom I darkened the sky with almost 1 stop and I increased the contrast slightly.

Mooi dramatisch effect door de lange sluitertijd en de donkere lucht. Die stop naar onder is een goede keus geweest denk ik. Zo is de foto mooi in balans en heb je een donker sfeertje. Anders was het minder krachtig geweest denk ik.

I like the mood too. I think it would have been better if there was space for the sun to cast its last light upon the clouds, but you can't have it all.
