Artist's Comments

Edit: A bigger version as you guys wanted!

This one is from the same morning as my previous one. I stood up at 5:30.

I really like how the sun was illuminating the mist of the morning and the reed in the foreground caught my eye.
This picture was hard too expose as there was a major difference between the lightness of the foreground and the background.

When I uploaded this picture to my PC I imported it in Lightroom. I was very disappointed with the way LR interpreted this picture. It was incredibly dark and even in the camera correction menu I couldn't get it right. So what I did was importing the .NEF-file to CaptureNX and than I imported it in Lightroom again as a 16-bit .TIFF-file. Now I could get back the details I wanted by using the fill light slider. I also warmed the shot by almost 50K.

great shot, i just feel that it needs to be larger to be able to fully appreciate it.

modern day has brought us many gifts, gifts no-one would reject, and yet they come at a price, a hidden one, but when alleviated of it, we see it.

How come the sun is in full show in front of the tree? Looks like it has just been added in... Great shot though.

Difficult shot but you pulled it through really nicely brother! I love the highlights on the reed and the background is just a dream!

I totally abandoned Lightroom after just a couple of tries. Its interpretation of my shots is an absolute disappointment :frustrated:

at [link] you can find calibration presets. Most of the time they work fine but in some cases indeed it is as you say an absolute disappointment. But I still love Lightroom soo much. The amount of control on your images and your library management is just so intuitive. I have a trail of captureNX2 which expires in 2 weeks. I gave it a try, but Lightroom feels just so much better to me.

But for this shot the lose of details in the shadow was just too bad. The most frustrating is that you can see the image getting worse during the rendering of the high-res image.

You use captureNX right?

Lol, it really isn't edited there. I can give you a correct explanation with physical theories. But when the amount of light is very high in areas the light bends over the small obstacles in front of its light surface.
